Sparklers

Wednesday 3.15 - 3.45pm (30 mins) - $110 per term at Stage Door Studios

A 30 minute Musical Theatre class for young primary students from 5 years+.

With a focus on building confidence, singing, movement, and fun, this class is a great introduction to musical theatre for our youngest students.

Students rehearse towards a performance at the end of the year.

Homework for Sparklers

This week our Sparklers and Starlets classes combined to finish learning off the moves to our 2025 Finale Song "Happy".

Homework this week is to run through "Happy" at home, trying to remember all of the choreography.

The track, backing and lyrics can all be accessed via the resources folders (link on the right hand side of this page).

This week we had a quick recap of the verse 1&2 vocals for our Term Three song ‘A Little Bit of You’ before moving on to work on our 2025 Finale song. This is the song that all nine of our musical theatre classes will perform together at the very end of our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase in November (see the bottom of this page for more information about the showcase).
Our 2025 Finale song is Happy by Pharrell Williams.
We were impressed to learn that many of our Sparklers and Startlets are already familiar with the song (Thanks Despicable Me 2!). This week we learnt the moves for verse 1 and the chorus - lots of clapping!

Homework this week is to sing through ‘A Little Bit of Me’ and to sing AND dance through the first section of ‘Happy’ (ie verse 1 and the chorus)

A reminder that the resources for all Sparklers songs (ie tracks, backing tracks & lyric sheets) can all be accessed from this page.

Important Notices for Sparklers

Throughout the year our Sparklers class will work on several different songs that they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances at the end of the year, on Saturday 22 November 2025 (scroll down for more information about our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase).

Parents and Students are asked to keep an eye on this page, where updates, practice resources and homework notes will be regularly added throughout the year.

TERM ONE SONG: Hakuna Matata
From The Lion King
With music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice

This fun song comes from the 1994 Disney Animated film The Lion King. Although now over 30 years old, The Lion King still remains the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all time!

The storyline follows Simba, the young lion prince, who flees his kingdom when his father, King Mufasa dies. In exile Simba befriends meerkat Timon and warthog Pumbaa, who introduce him to the concept of ‘Hakuna Matata’  to try to teach him to forget his troubled past and live in the present. "Hakuna matata" is a Swahili language phrase which in English  means "no trouble" or "no worries" and "take it easy".

TERM TWO SONG: Castle on a Cloud
From Les Miserables
With music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil, Jean-Marc Natel and Herbert Kretzmer

Les Misérables is a ‘sung-through musical’ (meaning there are no spoken words, only sung). It is based on the 1862 novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and is set in early 19th-century France. The musical tells the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his desire for redemption. Jean Valjean adopts a young orphan girl called Cosette.
Our song "Castle on a Cloud" is sung by Cosette, who - before she is adopted - dreams of a beautiful life, instead of her sad and lonely life with the dreadful Thénardiers. Cosette imagines a "castle on a cloud" where all children are free to play and where she is loved and cared for by a beautiful lady dressed in white - a vision of her mother, Fantine.

TERM THREE SONG: A Little Bit of You
From Frozen - The Broadway Musical
With music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez.

This term our Sparklers and Starlets classes are having fun working together on a combined class number!
"A Little Bit of You" is taken from the 2018 stage musical adaption of Disney's 2013 hit animated movie Frozen. The story of Frozen centers on the relationship between the two young princess sisters, Elsa and Anna. Elsa has magical powers to create snow and ice, which she does not know how to control. It's a story that celebrates staying true to ourselves and to our friends and whanau. Ultimately this dedication between the two sisters saves the day.
In the musical our song is sung by the young Elsa and Anna, as Elsa entertains her little sister with her ice powers.

SHOWCASE FINALE SONG: Happy
Written and performed by Pharrell Williams

Although it was released well over 10 years ago, most of our students, even including the  youngest of them are familiar with this song, due to its inclusion on the  Despicable Me 2 animated movie sound track.
'Happy' is about choosing happiness and resilience in the face of adversity, encouraging us find joy within ourselves and not let negativity define our mood, even when faced with bad news.
It's a a fun, upbeat song and a reminder of the power of positivity and the potential for joy in everyday life.

Song lyrics and practice tracks for all Sparklers Song can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song title listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pics) to access these.
