Verve - MT Dance

Monday, 4:20pm-5:20pm - $155 per term at Stage Door Studios

A 60 minute dance classes specifically tailored for musical theatre enthusiasts in school years 7-8 (ie Intermediate aged students) wanting to up-skill in the area of dance.

Taught by local dance teacher and choreographer Sam McLeod, Stage Door's Musical Theatre Dance classes focus on musical theatre style dance as well as touching on the many and varied styles of dance featuring in today’s musicals.

Students can expect to explore jazz dance techniques as they learn how to turn, leap and kick safety and effectively.

There will be a strong focus on using our bodies in a communicative way to connect to the music, to the story and to an audience.

Class attendees will rehearse towards a performance at the end of the year.

Important Notices for Verve - MT Dance

During Term One our focus for all of Stage Door's school aged classes is on establishing connections and creating a safe and fun classroom environment where we hope our students will be able to relax, have fun and grown in confidence and skill throughout the year. We take time to get to know each other, play games and invest in activities designed to promote connection, team work and fun. We find that doing this at the start of the year is absolutely vital to establishing a class culture and environment inline with our tag line that Stage Door is a place 'Where Everyone Belongs'.

Throughout the year our Verve - MT Dance class will work on a number of songs that they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances at the end of the year.

This year our Verve students will be working on two great numbers.
The first is 'Nicest Kids in Town' from the musical Hairspray.
Our second song is 'This is What it Sounds Like' from Kpop Demon Hunters - this will be a collaborative project with the Zeal high school aged Musical Theatre Dance class.

Parents and Students are asked to keep an eye on this page, where updates, practice resources and homework notes will be regularly added throughout the year.

Song lyrics and practice tracks for all Verve songs can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song title listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pic) to access these.

If they have them, Verve - MT Dance class students are encouraged to bring Jazz shoes & Chorus shoes to each class with them.

If they don't have Jazz shoes - Sam suggests trainers and old socks (that don't matter if they get holes in them)

If they don't have Chorus shoes - Sam suggests finding some sturdy, heeled opshop shoes similar to chorus shoes (ideally with a strap, otherwise these can always be tied or strapped on separately)

Male students are welcome to opt for chorus style shoes as well and/or flat mens dress shoes.

If you are wishing to purchase Jazz and/or Chorus shoes, Stage Door recommends
