Homework for Asteroids

We learnt some fun new vocal warm up songs before moving on to work on our 2025 Finale song.
This is the song that all nine of our musical theatre classes will perform together at the very end of our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase in November (see the bottom of this page for more information about the showcase).
Our 2025 Finale song is Happy by Pharrell Williams.

The class has now learnt the choreo for both verses and the chorus.

Two bits of homework again this week:
First up, continue working on ‘Rise’ - as per last weeks homework note.
Next, practice singing and dancing through the first section of ‘Happy’ (ie verse 1 and the chorus)

A reminder that the resources for all Asteroids songs (ie tracks, backing tracks & lyric sheets) can all be accessed from this page.

Important Notices for Asteroids

Throughout the year our Asteroids class will work on a number of songs that they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances at the end of the year, on Saturday 22 November, 2025 (scroll down for more information about our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase).

Parents and Students are asked to keep an eye on this page, where updates, practice resources and homework notes will be regularly added throughout the year.

TERM ONE SONG: Live in Living Colour
From Catch Me If You Can
With music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and lyrics by Terrence McNally

Catch Me If You Can follows the story of a con artist named Frank Abagnale in the 1960s in America. Our song “Live in Living Colour” opens the musical as Frank, a young con man, is cornered at the Miami International Airport by FBI agents. Before his arrest, Frank informs the people in the airport why he is being arrested.

TERM TWO SONG: Welcome to Wonderland
From Wonderland
With music by Frank Wildhorn and lyrics by Jack Murphy

Wonderland is a contemporary version of the novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871) by Lewis Carroll, and is set in New York City and focuses on writer Alice Cornwinkle and her 10-year-old daughter Chloe.
Alice and Chloe have just moved to Queens, New York. Chloe laments about the move and her family's demise. After hitting her head in the elevator Alice learns that her children's book manuscript has been rejected by the publishers saying it is too dark for children. She falls asleep, only to be woken by the White Rabbit and taken to Wonderland.
There, she encounters strange people and creatures in our song "Welcome to Wonderland".

TERM THREE SONG: Rise
Made famous by Katy Perry
With music by Perry and others

Rise is an uplifting anthem of a pop song by American singer-songwritter Katy Perry. It was first released in 2016 and was used in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

SHOWCASE FINALE SONG: Happy
Written and performed by Pharrell Williams

Although it was released well over 10 years ago, most of our students, even including the  youngest of them are familiar with this song, due to its inclusion on the  Despicable Me 2 animated movie sound track.
'Happy' is about choosing happiness and resilience in the face of adversity, encouraging us find joy within ourselves and not let negativity define our mood, even when faced with bad news.
It's a a fun, upbeat song and a reminder of the power of positivity and the potential for joy in everyday life.

Song lyrics and practice tracks for all Asteroids songs can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song titles listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pics) to access these.
