Ovation

It was great getting back into the classroom with our quirky Ovation Class students this week! 

We learned a silly new game (Bar-ba-ra) before selecting individual monologues which we will be working on throughout the term. 

For homework students have been tasked with reading through their chosen monologue lots and doing some background research into their monologue. This might look like reading a book, watching a movie, doing some research online - or simply reading a wikipedia page. 

During Term One our Senior Drama Classes focused on: 
- getting to know each other
- creating a class environment that is fun, productive and safe
- learning about the 'tools' that students each can have in their Actors Tool Box.

The 'tools' we talked about included: 
1. BODIES
2. FACES
3. VOICES
4. UNIQUENESS
5. ENERGY 
6. EYES
7. EXPERIENCES
8. EMPATHY
9. INTELECT
10. PLAY

In Term Two our focus has shifted to these three areas: 
1. MONOLOGUE WORK
2. IMPROVISATION
3. CONTEXT STUDY

During Term One our Ovation students had a session discussing what they wanted the environment of their class to be like, in order that it might be a safe and inclusive space where all students felt respected, encourage and able to let loose and have fun. 

Together, the students came up with a list of behaviours and attitudes that they felt would help to achieve this. 
This list has been incorporated into a class agreement we are calling the Ovation Class Environment Statement.
Our Ovation students and tutors have signed a hardcopy of this statement, agreeing that we will all try to remember to help create a safe, fun class environment.
