Encore

It was awesome to get back into the classroom with our awesome Encore Class students this week! 

We learned a silly new game (Bar-ba-ra) before selecting individual monologues which we will be working on throughout the term. 

To finish off with we started learning the foundational building blocks of improvisation: 
1. Accepting offers (Yes, let's!)
2. Adding to offers (Yes, And...)
3. Storytelling (Beginning, Middle & End)

For homework students have been tasked with reading through their chosen monologue lots and doing some background research into their monologue. This might look like reading a book, watching a movie, doing some reasearch online - or simply reading a wikipedia page. 

During Term One our Senior Drama Classes focused on: 
- getting to know each other
- creating a class environment that is fun, productive and safe
- learning about the 'tools' that students each can have in their Actors Tool Box.

The 'tools' we talked about included: 
1. BODIES
2. FACES
3. VOICES
4. UNIQUENESS
5. ENERGY 
6. EYES
7. EXPERIENCES
8. EMPATHY
9. INTELECT
10. PLAY

In Term Two our focus has shifted to these three areas: 
1. MONOLOGUE WORK
2. IMPROVISATION
3. CONTEXT STUDY

During Term One our Encore students had a session discussing what they wanted the environment of their class to be like, in order that it might be a safe and inclusive space where all students felt respected, encourage and able to let loose and have fun. 

Together, the students came up with a list of behaviours and attitudes that they felt would help to achieve this. 
This list has been incorporated into a class agreement we are calling the Encore Class Environment Statement.
Our Encore students and tutors have signed a hardcopy of this statement, agreeing that we will all try to remember to help create a safe, fun class environment.
