Homework for Shooting Stars

This week our Shooting Stars focused on their Term Three song "In Summer".
Wet days must be good for choreo retention somehow - we managed to get through loads today!!
The class now know most of the choreo for the whole song.

Next week we plan to lock in positions and set the final section of the song.

A reminder that all Shooting Stars song resources (ie backings, tracks and lyrics) can be found on this page. Look for the relevant song name to the right of the page to access these.

This week we learnt some fun new vocal warm up songs before moving on to work on our 2025 Finale song.
This is the song that all nine of our musical theatre classes will perform together at the very end of our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase in November (see the bottom of this page for more information about the showcase).
Our 2025 Finale song is Happy by Pharrell Williams.

We were impressed to learn that many of our Rising and Shooting Stars are already familiar with the song (Thanks Despicable Me 2!).  This week we learnt the moves for verse 1 and the chorus - lots of clapping!

Two bits of homework this week:
First up, continue working on 'In Summer' - as per last weeks homework note.
Next, practice singing and dancing through the first section of ‘Happy’ (ie verse 1 and the chorus)

A reminder that the resources for all Shooting Stars songs (ie tracks, backing tracks & lyric sheets) can all be accessed from this page.

Welcome back to Term Three!
We loved getting back into classes this week and seeing all of our awesome Shooting Stars exciting to reconnect with their friends. It was wonderful also to welcome Brooke to class this term.

This week we learnt that our new song for Term Three 'In Summer' from Frozen.
We learnt two stances which will be used time and again in this song:

  • 'Home' position
  • 'Summer' position

Before learning a little of the choreo for verse one of the song.
This comedic ballad promises to be lots of fun!

Homework this week is for students to remember which group they are in, to rememember their two stances and to practice the choreo that was learnt in class.

A reminder that the track and lyrics for 'In Summer' can be found on this page.

Throughout the year our Shooting Stars class will work on several different songs that they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances at the end of the year, on Saturday 22 November, 2025 (scroll down for more information about our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase).

Parents and Students are asked to keep an eye on this page, where updates, practice resources and homework notes will be regularly added throughout the year.

TERM ONE SONG: It’s the Hard Knock Life
From Annie
With music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin

One of the more well known songs from Annie, "It's the Hard Knock Life" is sung by the ever positive Annie together with her fellow orphan girls as they reflect on how they are treated by the orphanage mistress Miss Hannigan.

TERM TWO SONG: Let’s Go Fly A Kite
From Mary Poppins
With songs by the Sherman Brothers

Mary Poppins the musical movie was released in 1964 and was produced by Walt Disney.
Mary Poppins visits a dysfunctional family in London and employs her unique brand of lifestyle to improve the family's dynamic.
"Let's Go Fly a Kite" appears at the end of the film when George Banks realizes that his family is much more important than his job. He mends his son's kite and takes his family on a kite-flying outing.

TERM THREE SONG: In Summer
From Frozen
With music and lyrics composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez

'In Summer' is sung by the character of Olaf - a snowman created and brought to life by Elsa for she and her little sister Anna to play with. It's a fun number in which Olaf expresses how he wants to experience the season of summer - not understanding the implications for snow!

SHOWCASE FINALE SONG: Happy
Written and performed by Pharrell Williams

Although it was released well over 10 years ago, most of our students, even including the  youngest of them are familiar with this song, due to its inclusion on the  Despicable Me 2 animated movie sound track.
'Happy' is about choosing happiness and resilience in the face of adversity, encouraging us find joy within ourselves and not let negativity define our mood, even when faced with bad news.
It's a a fun, upbeat song and a reminder of the power of positivity and the potential for joy in everyday life.

Song lyrics and practice tracks for all Shooting Stars songs can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song title listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pics) to access these.
