Important Notices for Rising Stars

Wowsers! What a wet and wild Wednesday we had this week!
This week our Rising Stars worked on their Term Three Song 'I Just Can't Wait to be King'.
Positions have been set for the song and we are well on the way with teaching all of the choreography.

Homework this week is to learn the lyrics off by heart for the first half of the song (ie up to the dance break).

A reminder that the resources for "I Just Can't Wait to be King" (and all other Rising Stars songs) can be found by clicking on the song title on the right hand side of this page.

Throughout the year our Rising Stars class will work on several different songs that they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances at the end of the year, on Saturday 22 November, 2025 (scroll down for more information about our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase).

Parents and Students are asked to keep an eye on this page, where updates, practice resources and homework notes will be regularly added throughout the year.

TERM ONE SONG: We’re All Made of Stars
From Finding Neverland
with music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy

Finding Neverland is a musical adapted from the 1998 play ‘The Man Who Was Peter Pan’ and its 2004 film version ‘Finding Neverland’.
Finding Neverland tells the story of J.M. Barrie, a playwright with writer's block who is searching for a great story to tell, and Peter Llewelyn Davies, a withdrawn young boy struggling to recover from the loss of his dad. Together Barrie and Peter encourage and inspire one another as they each write plays. Peter lacks confidence in himself and in his play. In our song “We’re All Made of Stars” Peter’s brothers encourage him telling him to be proud of what he has written, and saying that he can be anything he wants to be.

TERM TWO SONG: Let’s Go Fly A Kite
From Mary Poppins
With music by the Sherman Brothers

Mary Poppins the musical movie was released in 1964 and was produced by Walt Disney.
Mary Poppins visits a dysfunctional family in London and employs her unique brand of lifestyle to improve the family's dynamic.

"Let's Go Fly a Kite" appears at the end of the film when George Banks realizes that his family is much more important than his job. He mends his son's kite and takes his family on a kite-flying outing.

TERM THREE SONG: I Just Can't Wait to be King
From The Lion King
With music by Elton John and Lyrics by Tim Rice

"I Just Can't Wait to Be King" first appeared in the 1994 Disney animated feature film The Lion King.
It's a fun upbeat number that features the characters of Simba, Nala (both young lion cubs) and Zazu (a red-billed hornbill, and advisor to the king). In it the young lions dream about what it will be like when Simba, heir to the throne, takes over as King of the pride-lands.

SHOWCASE FINALE SONG: Happy
Written and performed by Pharrell Williams

Although it was released well over 10 years ago, most of our students, even including the  youngest of them are familiar with this song, due to its inclusion on the  Despicable Me 2 animated movie sound track.
'Happy' is about choosing happiness and resilience in the face of adversity, encouraging us find joy within ourselves and not let negativity define our mood, even when faced with bad news.
It's a a fun, upbeat song and a reminder of the power of positivity and the potential for joy in everyday life.

Song lyrics and practice tracks for all Rising Stars Classes can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song title listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pics) to access these.

Homework for Rising Stars

This week we learnt some fun new vocal warm up songs before moving on to work on our 2025 Finale song.
This is the song that all nine of our musical theatre classes will perform together at the very end of our 2025 Musical Theatre Showcase in November (see the bottom of this page for more information about the showcase).
Our 2025 Finale song is Happy by Pharrell Williams.

We were impressed to learn that many of our Rising and Shooting Stars are already familiar with the song (Thanks Despicable Me 2!).  This week we learnt the moves for verse 1 and the chorus - lots of clapping!

Two bits of homework this week:
First up, continue working on I Just Can’t Wait To Be King - as per last weeks homework note.
Next, practice singing and dancing through the first section of ‘Happy’ (ie verse 1 and the chorus)

A reminder that the resources for all Rising Stars songs (ie tracks, backing tracks & lyric sheets) can all be accessed from this page.
