TERM TWO

Classes

During Term One our focus was on getting to know each other, settling into class - and having fun!
We have a fabulous group of Year One students in our Sparklers class this year and it has been wonderful seeing them grow in confidence, make friends, learn songs and have fun so far this year!

Each week our Sparklers students join together with the Starlets Class for a combined physical and vocal warm up.
This is an important time for us to connect with friends and get our voices, bodies and minds ready for class.

Throughout the year our Sparklers class will work on four different songs, which they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances on Saturday November 23rd 2024 (scroll down for more information about our 2024 Musical Theatre Showcase).

TERM ONE SONG
You've Got A Friend in Me - from Toy Story, written by Randy Newman
This fun song was written by Randy Newman and was the theme song for the 1995 Disney/Pixar animated film Toy Story. The song subsequently it has since become a major musical component for all of the film's sequels - Toy Story 2 (1999), Toy Story 3 (2010) and Toy Story 4 (2019) as well as a musical leitmotif throughout the whole Toy Story franchise. The song was nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. The song speaks about the special bond of friendship being able to carry us through thick and thin.

TERM TWO SONG
Somewhere Over The Rainbow - from The Wizard of Oz, written by Harold Arlen
This ballad by was written by Harold Arlen in 1939 for the classic film The Wizard of Oz. It was sung by emerging actress Judy Garland in her starring role as Dorothy. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became Garland's signature song. Dorothy sings the song after an unpleasant incident with a nasty woman in town who tells her to "find yourself a place where you won't get into any trouble". This prompts Dorothy to walk off, musing to her dog Toto, "Someplace where there isn't any trouble. Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It's not a place you can get to by a boat, or a train. It's far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain", at which point she begins singing.
