Classes

The focus in our Mezzo class this week was BREATH CONTROL.

Breath control refers to managing your breath while singing. Solid breathing technique is the bedrock of good singing, because it helps us sing longer phrases, stay in tune, maintain consistent tone and control volume and range. Better breath control = better singing.

We practiced several breathing exercises including breathing out and singing through straws.

To apply conscious breathing technique to our song “Something in the Water” we looked over the first page of lyrics, highlighting where we need to take breaths.

Homework this week is to:
Mark in all of the breaths for the second page of "Something in the Water";
Warm up on the way to our next lesson by first breathing and then singing through a straw;
Work on the solo and small group sections of the song; and
Practice the body percussion for the song.

Next week we will focus on finishing our first song for term 3!
A reminder that students should ALWAYS bring their lyrics and other resources to each class so these can be used to make notes on each week. We will be working on solos next week.

A reminder that song lyrics and practice tracks for all Mezzo songs can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song title listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pic) to access there.
