Welcome back to all of our wonderful Mezzo Singers!
This week our focus was on TIMING AND RHYTHM.
Timing and rhythm are necessary skills in singing if we are to stay in sync with the music and other performers.
Rhythm refers to the pattern of beats in a song (or the 'drive' or 'feel' of a song), while timing relates to staying in sync with the rhythm. If a singers timing is off, the song can sound messy or out of place. Having good timing and rhythm are especially important when singing in a group so that everyone stays together and sounds polished.
Our fous this week links closely to last week’s focus on listening. Staying in time relies on being able to hear and respond to the beat, other singers, and the music around you. Good listening helps us to match our rhythm with the group, stay on beat, and blend better with others.
This week we had fun experimenting with body percussion and creating 8 count percussive patterns with a partner.
Our Term Three song 'Something in the Water' is already sounding really lovely.
This week we focused on adding body percussion throughout the song.
Homework this week is to keep timing and rhythm in mind while singing through the song and practicing all of the body percussion!
A reminder that song lyrics and practice tracks for all Mezzo songs can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song title listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pic) to access these.
